"I am happy the way my career has shaped up": Shubhaavi Choksey

Despite playing adult mothers in her TV roles at a young age, Shubhaavi Choksey insists she will never have grey hair. She does so for a reason. She claims, "Even though I've never been the main character, I've always played strong roles. I pick characters that are unique and challenging to portray. They are always strong characters, despite the fact that they are likely much older than I am in real life. However, unless it is absolutely necessary, I don't want to use whitener on my hair before a show. My immediate response is a no if someone asks me to do something. I avoid doing that as much as possible because I don't actually fit into that age group in real life.

Only then, she says, will she think about doing it if the story genuinely justifies it. "I don't mind sporting grey if there is a graph and the story develops over the years and my character has to get really old," the actor said.

Although time jumps in television shows are common, the actors' youthful appearance makes everything seem very unreal. We question whether television should adopt a similar approach at a time when OTT shows prioritize realistic portrayal. Shubhaavi responds, "I wouldn't talk about other shows; I would only talk about my show. When the leap occurred in our show, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain 2, I was wearing pants and western attire. Today, I am donning a sari and my hair has grown out. My character does appear more experienced and mature. Grey hair was therefore not required.

In 2004's Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Shubhaavi made her television debut. She believes, though, that as an actor, she hasn't gotten her due. I do think I haven't gotten my due, she admits, and I believe that's primarily because I kept taking breaks.

She continues, "I am pleased with how my career has growed. I did, however, take a few breaks. I took a break in 2007 after getting married because my husband has business in Dubai, so I had to divide my time between the two locations for a full year. I was unable to sign any TV shows as a result, and when I thought I would return, I became pregnant. I began practicing Bade Achhe Lagte Hain in 2011 after giving birth. I took a break for five or six years after that show in order to be with my child. After that, in 2018, I returned and completed Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2 because my son had somewhat matured by then. So, yes I have given time for my personal life as well. But now, I am here to stay without any breaks.”
