Jay Zaveri says that it took him sometime to get used to his role Shanky in the show 'Appnapan Badalte Rishton Ka Bandhan'. The actor says that the character is very unlike from what he has essayed before.

"Shanky is basically a guide, friend, philosopher, and business partner to Nikhil Jaisingh, who is a great chef," Jay said.

"The bond which I shared with Nick (Cezanne Khan) is great, on and off screen. The role is so unlike from the other roles which I have essayed on screen. The director keeps telling me to 'bring in the shankiness to my act."

'Shankiness', Jay says, means that a person can say anything, anytime without giving much attention to the situation." Jay is a tried and tested hand, having been a part of shows such as 'Vighnaharta Ganesha', 'Meri Hanikarak Biwi’, ‘Ishq Main Marjawan' Season 2 and 'Janani'.

He says "This role has taught me so much. I was a little unsure in the beginning when I was doing this role. I did not like Shanky as a person, his personality. I am generally a calm and quiet person, I can't come up with puns and I need my own time. I speak respectfully, politely."

"I had real problems playing this role. This is different from the other roles I have done before. This is something more in the fun and comic zone. The entire series is a family drama and Shanky is supposed to bring in a funny shape to this."

When asked about the kind of characters he would enjoy to play in the future, he added: "As an actor, I always have to be selfish. I have played characters in shows such as 'Ishq Mein Marjawan', where I played a way of grey character. Now I am doing a fun and comic character. People tell me that I can essay a antagonist role well and I am looking forward to playing a lot of those in the future."

Jay said he has learnt a lot from his roles in show business. "I was part of 'Mere Sai' where I played the character of Das Ganu Maharaj and that role taught me a lot," he said.

Giving an instance, he said: "Usually, I am a little quick-tempered person. After playing Das Guru Maharaj, I realized that I have to stay composed and calm and think before I say something. The roles which I have essayed have changed some part in me as well."

Jay added: "If I talk about my other roles, I played Bhojraj in 'Vighnaharta Ganesha'. The character is with strength like a king but yet was so devoted to Krishna and Meera. He always chats to everyone in a subtle way."

He concluded off by saying: "After playing these many protagonist roles, somewhere unknowingly or knowingly, they became a part of me. I also made sure to speak respectfully and politely with each and everyone. Just like my dad always used to teach me, when you give respect to someone, you will get it back always."
