The youngster, who started out as a model, will be making his Kollywood debut with Adhik Ravichandran’s Bagheera, starring Prabhudeva in the lead.

“I landed the film much before the grand finale of the pageant happened,” begins the Pollachi lad, who’s now settled in Chennai. Talking about how the offer came his way, he says, “I’m a software engineer and have been working as a consultant from home for almost five-six years now. But I’ve always aspired to be an actor. So, I started by trying my hand at modelling. I did ramp shows, acted in ads and even won a regional pageant. I wanted to have a national identity and entered the Mr India pageant. However, in that interim, I got the offer to star in Bagheera through a casting director, who had seen some of my ramp shows and ads. I auditioned for the role over video calls and later, met the director as well.”

Gopinath will be playing Sakshi Agarwal’s boyfriend in the film, billed as a psychological thriller. “I was told that the makers had been hunting for an actor for quite a while to play this character. It’s an interesting role and I play Sakshi’s boyfriend, who tries to protect her. My first shot was with Prabhudeva sir and I was both excited and nervous. I actually had to hit him with an iron rod for that particular scene and I was so jittery. It took me three-four takes to get the scene right. But Prabhudeva sir was so calm and ensured I was comfortable on the set. He was very genuine and asked me about myself. It was an amazing experience working with him and the entire team,” he says.
