DUBAI: In the most recent ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings, which were revealed on Wednesday, stylish Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav closed the distance on No. 1 Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan by moving up one spot to a career-best-equaling second position.
Suryakumar is ranked second with 801 rating points in the most recent weekly update that takes into account performances in the second and third games of the India-Australia series after hammering a match-winning 69 off 36 deliveries on Sunday in Hyderabad to help the hosts win the series 2-1.
In contrast, Pakistan's opener Rizwan has maintained his top position in the batting rankings following his outstanding performances in the current seven-match series against England.
The 30-year-old Rizwan has helped himself remain at the top with scores of 88 not out, 8, and 88 in the second, third, and fourth T20Is against England. With the series tied at 2-2 going into Wednesday's fifth game, his contributions helped Pakistan win the second and fourth T20Is.
Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, has climbed one spot to take over third place. In the second T20I of their current seven-match series against Australia, Babar, who had held the No. 1 spot for 1,155 days prior to being surpassed by teammate Mohammad Rizwan early this month, was named Player of the Match for an undefeated 110.
He then followed it up in the third and fourth games, which were also played over the last week, with scores of eight and 36.
Following scores of 46 not out and 17, India captain Rohit Sharma has climbed one spot to position 13 while Australia's Matthew Wade, Cameron Green, and Tim David have all risen in the rankings. Wade has climbed six spots to 62nd, Green has climbed 31 spots to 67th, and David has climbed 202 spots to 109th. The final game of the series saw half-centuries from Green and David.
With performances of 2/13 and 3/33 in the final two games, Indian spinner Axar Patel, who ended up taking the most wickets in the series against Australia, has moved up 15 spots to No. 18. Josh Hazlewood, an Australian fast bowler, continues to stay at the top of the bowlers' ranking, followed by Yuzvendra Chahal (up from 28th to 26th).
Ben Ducket has climbed 1,070 positions to 32nd rank after scoring 43, 70 not out, and 33 in the three matches, while England batter Harry Brook has climbed 118 positions to 29th after getting 31, 81 not out, and 34 in Pakistan.
Reece Topley, the third-highest-ranked English bowler after Adil Rashid and Chris Jordan, has climbed 14 spots to position 23, while Pakistani quick Haris Rauf has climbed seven spots to number 14 after collecting five wickets in his last three outings. Sam Curran moved up five spots to 47th while Mark Wood advanced 29 spots to 40th.
After scoring 49 against Papua New Guinea (PNG), Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus has climbed 38 spots to joint-49th in the ICC Men's ODI Player Rankings, which takes into account performances in five games of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 in Port Moresby. Meanwhile, USA captain Monank Patel has climbed three spots to 53rd in the batters' list.
Chad Soper of PNG and left-arm fast bowler Saurabh Netravalkar of the USA both made advancements in the bowlers' rankings.
