KABUL – According to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), more than 24 million Afghans require urgent humanitarian assistance.

On Twitter, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) stated that "as many as 24.4 million people in Afghanistan require humanitarian assistance."  "Compared to a year earlier, this is a 30% increase." The ICRC also expressed worry in a separate statement on the closure of many medical centres in Afghanistan, according to reports.

"The banking and liquidity crisis is reverberating across the country, with massive implications for the health sector since several hospitals are unable to pay salaries or obtain fuel to power their generators," the ICRC stated. "Ambulances can't run; patients' food supplies are running low, and they don't have enough medicine." Meanwhile, bakeries that distribute bread to the destitute have reported an uptick in the number of persons asking for bread recently.

Akram, a father of five children, said he has been looking for work to support his family but has been unable to locate one. As a result, he is forced to stand in line for free bread and take it home for his family.
