Idashisha Nongrang, a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) official, has been named acting director general of police (DGP) for Meghalaya.

Nongrang would perform the responsibilities of Meghalaya DGP till a full-fledged DGP is appointed, according to an official announcement. Idashisha Nongrang, an IPS officer from the 1992 batch, is now the Meghalaya police's special DG.

"Pending the appointment of a fully pledged Director General of Police, Meghalaya... in the interest of public service, Smti Idashisha Nongrang, IPS (RR 1992), Special Director General of Police, Meghalaya, is temporarily allowed to look after the office of Director General of Police, Meghalaya," the Governor's notification stated.

Following the retirement of current DGP R Chandranathan, Nongrang will take over as acting DGP on December 31. Meanwhile, Meghalaya's chief minister, Conrad Sangma, recently announced that the search for a new DGP has begun.
