NEW DELHI: Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, declared on Tuesday, September 20 that if his party won the election in Gujarat, it will bring back the previous pension programme.
Rahul stated in a tweet, "The BJP's repeal of the previous pension system has reduced elderly people's independence; government employees have a right to pensions because they support the country. We have brought back the old pension system in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and the government will soon arrive in Gujarat." Likewise, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, who is in charge for Himachal Pradesh, has said that the party will bring the old pension scheme in the state.
Prior to the Assembly elections, the Congress is focusing on 9.38 lakh panchayat employees, retirees, and government employees in Gujarat who have the power to defeat the BJP. In the state, the BJP has held power for more than three decades. There is a need for the previous pension plan to be reinstated in Himachal Pradesh as well, and there are more than one lakh pensioners.
To oppose the BJP, the Congress is concentrating on economic issues. The fishing community, which dominiates 32 seats in the state and was promised a lot of things by the Gujarat Congress.
President of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee Jagdish Thakor and previous president Arjun Modhwadia spoke to the media and made a promise to fishermen of a package of Rs. 50 lakh for boats taken by the Pakistani agency. They also pledged to provide 36,000 litres of diesel per year to boats that will be exempt from sales tax, 4,000 litres of petrol per year with sales tax exemption, and financial support if fishermen were in Pakistan custody.
