Hyderabad: The Telangana unit of the BJP on Thursday warned of dire consequences if the state government allows stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui to do a show in Hyderabad on August 20. BJP MLA from Goshamahal constituency T Raja Singh said in a video posted on social media that 'let them see what happens if he is called for a show in Hyderabad. Wherever there is a function, we will beat him up. Whatever the venue is, we will set it on fire.'

According to a report, the BJP leader said that 'in the past too, Farooqui had made fun of Hindu gods, which hurt his sentiments. If he comes to Telangana, we will definitely teach him a lesson for abusing our Lord Shri Ram. It's a challenge. On Wednesday, Faruqui took to social media to share details of doing a show in Hyderabad. Earlier, Faruqui was scheduled to do his show 'Dhandho' in Hyderabad on January 9. But due to the increasing cases of Corona, it was postponed. Even at that time, the Telangana BJP had announced that it would not allow Faruqui's show to take place "at any cost".

State BJP president Bandi Sanjay appealed to the youth to stop Faruqui's show. While MLA Raja Singh has written to Director General of Police M Mahender Reddy not to allow the show. Raja Singh said Faruqui was earlier arrested for spreading hatred against Hindu gods and jailed for 37 days. Raja Singh said Faruqui had also made serious remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah due to a function in Indore in January. He has also made comments against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the Godhra incident etc.
