New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry and ICMR have issued instructions to the state governments on corona deaths. According to the Supreme Court order, the Centre has directed the states that if a person dies of the corona, it will be necessary to write 'death from corona' on the death certificate. At the same time, the families of those who have died earlier due to corona can also demand this new death certificate. A committee will be constituted in each district to consider their demand. The Committee will make a decision on the application within 30 days of receipt of the application.

The Supreme Court had on various petitions filed by two petitioners namely Ripak Kansal and Gaurav Bansal had asked the National Disaster Management Authority to fix minimum compensation for the death of corona. In the same judgement on June 30, the court had asked the government to make arrangements for the writing of death due to corona in the death certificate. The court has earlier expressed its displeasure over the non-work in this direction. The Centre has now filed an affidavit stating that guidelines have been issued regarding death certificates.

What are the Centre's guidelines:-
It says that if the patient has been confirmed to have corona in an RT-PCR or molecular test or RAT or a hospital test, it will be necessary to write 'death from corona' on the death certificate in case of his death. These death certificates will be issued for death both at home or in the hospital. However, in the case of death due to poisoning, suicide, homicide or accidental death, even if the deceased was corona positive, but the cause of death will not be written corona in the death certificate.
