The historic city of Belgaum, located on the border of Karnataka and Maharashtra, known as Belagama, Belgaum in Kannada and Belgaum in government records, is nestled between the Western Ghats. The city is the second capital of the state of Karnataka, where an administrative building called 'Suvarna Vidhana Soudha' was constructed on 11 October 2012. Belgaum Fort

Belgaum Fort is a major site of historical importance. It has the status of a state heritage monument. This fort was once considered an impregnable fort protecting against enemy attacks. Mahatma Gandhi was also imprisoned here during the freedom movement. The Belgaum Lake located in the fort has been important from a security point of view. There is also a floating cafe house here and tourists can enjoy paddle boats and motor boats.

Gokak Falls

Gokak Falls is famous for its water falling from the high cliffs of the Western Ghats. A suspension bridge has been built to enjoy this 170 feet high waterfall, from which the water droplets of the waterfall float in the air. This waterfall is about 60 km away from the city and the greenery around it makes it even more attractive.

Ramakrishna Mission Ashram

This ashram is an ideal place for tourists looking for spiritual peace. It was established by Swami Vivekananda in 1852 and he spent 9 days here. Accommodation and food facilities are available in the ashram.

Lotus Colony

Kamal Basti, also known as Kamal Basadi, is famous for the Jain temple built by the 10th century rulers Ralta kings. The temple houses the idol of Lord Neminath and is built in Chalukya style of architecture.

Fort Lake

Fort Lake is situated in front of the Maa Durga temple of the fort. The natural beauty and lush greenery of this place attracts tourists. Watching the sunset sitting here is a unique experience.

Military Mahadev Temple

Built in 1955 by Lieutenant General SM Shrinagesh of the Indian Army, this temple is popular among Shiva devotees. A special fair is organized here on Shivaratri and Panchamrit Puja is performed every Monday.

Godchinmalaki Falls

Godchinmalaki Falls, located 15 km from Belgaum, is on the Markandeya River. The waterfall falls in two stages and swimming here can be dangerous. However, the splashes of the waterfall can be enjoyed.

Vajrapoha Falls

The Vajrapoha Falls falls from a height of 660 ft. It can be seen from a distance from the forest and requires trekking to reach here.

Yellur Fort

The Yellur Fort, also known as Rajhansagad Fort, has been ruled by various rulers. The fort offers beautiful views of the valley and there is also a Shiva temple inside the fort.

Best season to visit Belgaum

Monsoon (July to October) and winter (November to March) are the best seasons to visit Belgaum. The city is greener during monsoon, while the weather becomes very hot during summer (April to June), which can make traveling difficult.
