New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday issued an order to strictly enforce face masks at airports and planes. A bench led by acting Chief Justice (ACJ) Vipin Sanghi said a hefty fine should be imposed on those who do not wear masks at the airport and in planes. The court said the rules should be strictly enforced and violators should be included in the "no flying zone" if required. The counsel for the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) told the court that a concession has been given in removing the masks while eating food.

The petitioner has urged the court to consider bringing in an expert to consider the modalities. He said that during the visit he has seen that people do not wear masks. The decision comes after a PIL was filed in the Delhi High Court over violation of Covid protocols on planes and airports. The order said that this decision has been taken for the purpose of reducing the risk of coronavirus.

According to the order, dgca should issue separate guidelines to the employees of airports, planes to take strict action against passengers and others for violating the norms of masks and hand hygiene. Such persons should be booked and fined and placed on the no-fly list. The court further said that the pandemic is not over and it keeps showing its form from time to time, so we need to be aware of it.
