The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the Pakistan Navy's sailing club along Rawal Lake in Islamabad to be demolished, saying that the Navy lacks the power to engage in real estate ventures, according to the Friday Times.

The IHC ordered the club to be demolished within three weeks, and sanctioned 'criminal' and "misconduct" proceedings against former navy chief Admiral (retd) Zafar Mahmood Abbasi for the 'illegal' sailing club's establishment.  The navy officer's opening of the club was also ruled unconstitutional by the court, according to the report.

The IHC, led by Chief Justice Athar Minallah, found that the Capital Development Power (CDA) lacked the authority to provide the Pakistan Navy a no-objection certificate (NOC).According to the court, the sailing club was erected on National Park territory.

"You should throw away the petition immediately away if you get a request for the issue of a NOC either to an illegal housing organisation or a naval sailing club," Justice Minallah said the CDA, according to the newspaper."Because the sailing club is illegal, it should be removed in three weeks," said the IHC court.

Zeenat Saleem, a civilian, originally submitted the petition, claiming that the club restricted public access to the lake and was a "illegal occupancy" established without the necessary permits. Since July 2020, the sailing club has been closed.
