NEW DELHI: In a significant stride towards internationalization, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi is set to establish its campus in Abu Dhabi, marking a groundbreaking collaboration between the Union Ministry of Education and Abu Dhabi's Education and Knowledge Department (ADEK). The official signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) took place on July 15, coinciding with the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This development follows the footsteps of IIT Madras, as IIT Delhi becomes the second prestigious institution to announce the establishment of an offshore campus. Just last week, IIT Madras signed an MoU for the creation of a campus in the captivating setting of Tanzania's Zanzibar.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan celebrated this momentous occasion, tweeting, "The MoU for the establishment of @iitdelhi campus in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of Hon. PM @narendramodiji, unfolds a new chapter in the internationalization of India's education."
He further added, "An exemplar of #NewIndia's innovation and expertise, the IIT Delhi campus in UAE will be an edifice of India and UAE friendship. It will set a brand new template for leveraging the power of knowledge for both mutual prosperity and global good, as envisioned in NEP."
The IIT Delhi campus in Abu Dhabi will symbolize the close ties between India and the UAE, embodying the spirit of collaboration and knowledge exchange. Its presence will serve as a testament to the deepening relationship and open doors to new opportunities for both nations.
Commencing from January of next year, the Abu Dhabi campus will offer Master's courses, followed by the introduction of Bachelor's degree programs from September 2024. This progressive initiative holds the promise of a brighter future, fostering educational excellence and fostering global partnerships.
