New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu is going to have a convocation today. Even before the event, the convocation of the IIT has been mired in controversies. Jammu IIT has withdrawn the dress code issued for the convocation after the controversy. Now students who have reached their degree and medal in the convocation will be able to take part in this ceremony only in traditional gowns.

Actually, IIT Jammu had announced the dress code for the convocation two days ago. The IIT announced that on the day of convocation, students will have to wear the traditional Kashmir dress. An uproar ensued over this. People of Jammu region started criticizing the IIT management on social media accusing them of forcibly imposing Kashmiri dress.

When people expressed their displeasure on social media, MP and Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh from Udhampur Doda Parliamentary seat intervened. After Dr. Singh's intervention, the IIT management withdrew the decision to make Kashmiri dress compulsory. Now the traditional gown has been made mandatory for the convocation. Dr. Singh himself has given information by tweeting that the traditional gown of convocation has been made mandatory.
