The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD - Ministry of Human Resourse and Development) has postponed its decision to increase the MTech course fee in IITs. It is being told that this decision was taken by the Union Ministry under the chairmanship of Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank at the IIT Council meeting held in September. But now postponing its decision, the ministry says that the issue will be discussed again in the next meeting.

Human Resource Development Ministry officials have not commented on why the central government decided to postpone the fee hike in MTech courses of IITs. But it is also to be noted that this decision has been taken at a time when the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU Hostel Fees Hike) protested in a big way recently. It is being told that when the decision was taken to increase the fees of the IITs, students all over the country opposed it. The date of the next meeting of the council in this regard has not been decided yet.
