NEW DELHI: An official announced on Wednesday that the Special Cell of the Delhi Police has detained a 32-year-old illegal arms dealer and recovered 15 High-Quality semi-automatic pistols with 45 live cartridges from his hands.
The accused was named as Dilshad, a resident of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Rajiv Ranjan Singh said information was received regarding the supply chain of illegal firearms being used in the armed crimes in Delhi-NCR.
On September 19, the DCP said, "We received information that an interstate illegal firearms supplier, namely Dilshad, will be arriving at Inner Ring Road from Dhaula Kuan Bus Stand on the way leading to Naraina, Delhi with a large consignment of illegal firearms for the purpose of supplying the same to some unknown receiver." The accused Dilshad was then found at the designated location after the police set up a trap.
"The police officers who had already been deployed at precise locations to stop the suspect's escape quickly overcame him. Pistols and ammo were found during his search "said the senior official.
The accused was charged with violating the relevant provisions of the Arms Act, and the police launched an investigation. During this investigation, they found that the recovered guns were intended to be distributed to several gangsters in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
"He was taken before the relevant trial court and has been remanded to four days of police custody-remand in order to establish the forward and backward links of the recovered illicit Arms and ammunition," the official added.
