New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday ordered the Delhi Police to immediately evacuate people living in illegal slums and Dharamshalas located in the Kalkaji temple complex. The court has said that there is a need to remove the illegal occupants immediately as proper arrangements need to be made for the devotees who visit the temple in large numbers for the Navratri festival beginning from April 2.

Justice Pratibha M Singh, in her order, said that a large number of people come for the darshan of the temple during Navratri, in such a situation, allowing people to stay in illegal slims and Dharamshalas in the premises may pose a threat to the safety of the devotees. The court further said that we have no option but to order the police to evacuate the people staying illegally in the temple premises, as they are neither moving away on their own nor going to the flat on rent or to the night shelter.

Making the remarks, Justice Pratibha Singh directed Meenu Chaudhary, Joint Deputy Commissioner of Police, Southern Range, Delhi Police, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Isha Pandey concerned to monitor the process of vacating the slums and Dharamshalas located in the temple premises.
