IMA Ponzi chit fund case: Main accused Mansoor Khan arrested

NEW DELHI: Mansoor Khan, the main accused in the IMA Gold Ponzi skim scam, has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) from Delhi airport. He was in Dubai and was arrested at 6 a.m. on Friday morning after landing at the airport. Earlier, ED had issued notices to Mansoor Khan to cooperate with the investigation.

The ED officers of Bengaluru have come to Delhi to interrogate him. Earlier, ED had arrested 7 IMA directors. Mansoor Khan has also issued three summonses in connection with the case. Mansoor Khan was earlier summoned for questioning on July 3. ED has also recorded statements of 16 investors investing in Ponzi chit fund schemes and causing huge losses so far. The FIR was lodged on June 9 against the IMA Group of Company and its director Mohammad Mansoor Khan on behalf of Bengaluru Police.

ED launched an investigation into the money laundering case. The IMA Group of Companies is accused of duped about 40,000 people in the name of Ponzi Scheme. A press release issued by ED said that assets worth Rs 209 crore have been attached in the Ponzi scheme case due to fears of money laundering. This includes immovable property worth Rs 197 crore, deposits in 51 bank accounts at Rs 98 lakh and 11 crore in HDFC bank accounts under the Prime Minister's Garib Kalyan Yojana.
