NEW DELHI: A heat wave is expected to affect areas of northwest, east, and north peninsular India over the next three to five days, predicted the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to an IMD press statement, the following five days will likely see isolated pockets of the heat wave persist over Bihar, Jharkhand, and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

It is also noted that during the dates of June 11–13, heat wave conditions were extremely likely to affect southern Haryana–Delhi, southern Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha, as well as sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana.

In a statement about the nation's current state, IMD Scientist Naresh Kumar stated that East India is currently the main heat wave zone. Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal are experiencing a heat wave. The IMD had issued an orange notice for this in these areas. Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh are also feeling the effects of the heatwave.

Telangana and Andhra Pradesh's northern coastal regions would experience a heatwave for the next five days, he added. For the next two days, Andhra Pradesh may experience a severe heat wave with temperatures that could soar 6.5 degrees above average.

Due to the ongoing heat wave that is affecting the state, the School Education and Literacy Department in Jharkhand has announced that all schools will be closed until June 14. Due to the intense heat wave in Bihar, Patna DM has also halted all academic activities from June 12 to June 18 up to Class 12.

Naresh Kumar further mentioned that Vidarbha may experience a heatwave in the next two to three days. We are not anticipating much intensity this time in the North West, which includes Rajasthan and is a big heatwave zone. In addition, a heatwave is anticipated over the following two to three days in parts of South Haryana, NCR Delhi, and Southern Uttar Pradesh.

Only a 1 to 2-degree rise in temperature is anticipated at this time, therefore there won't be much fluctuations in the temperature. We have issued a three-day heat wave warning for Uttar Pradesh, the Delhi NCR, and Haryana out of an abundance of caution. The temperature is predicted to drop in this area after three days. The temperature is predicted to stay over 40 for the next 4 to 5 days, he noted.
