New Delhi: The monsoon will officially end on September 30 i.e. today. Even though there is widespread and heavy rainfall in different parts of the country. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), overall it has been a good year. Wednesday's long period of monsoon is around 99 per cent of the average (LPA). Due to this, it has been a normal year in terms of monsoon.

States that IMD considers monsoon as normal between 94 per cent and 106 per cent of LPA. The monsoon was the most active in September when it came to rain. This is a month when the monsoon is usually in the process of returning. Statistics show that June received 9.6 per cent more rainfall. It fell 6.9 per cent in July, fell 24 per cent in August, 31.7 per cent more in September. The monsoon usually starts its return from northwest India on September 17. But this time deep depression and cyclonic storms also recorded heavy rain at the end of the month.

The first deep depression of the season was made on September 13. Another depression formed over the east-central Bay of Bengal on September 25, which later turned into a cyclonic storm Gulab. It crossed the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha on Sunday evening. According to the IMD forecast, a remnant of Gulab is expected to reach the Arabian Sea on Thursday and intensify further into Cyclone Shaheen by Friday.
