Every year on 14 September, Hindi Diwas is celebrated to stop the growing status of English and to make people aware of the Hindi language. Hindi Diwas is a special day for crores of Indians. In the eyes of the world, whether Hindi day is a common day or Hindi is only a language, but for us, it is our pride. Our ancestors left it for us and kept it alive until now. Hindi is not a language but it is mother tongue for millions of people. It is the result of their struggle and hard work, that Hindi is one of the most popular languages in the world.
We cannot say that Hindi has surpassed every other language. It is an honour for crores of Indians and all the people around the world who speak and study Hindi.
Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, had seen the dream of honouring Hindi at the world level 102 years ago. In the year 1918, Mahatma Gandhi spoke at the Hindi Sahitya Sammelan to make Hindi the national language. In 1949, two years after India's independence, Hindi was given the status of the official language of India.
After receiving the status of Official Language in the year 1949, the day of 14 September 1953 proved to be very important for Hindi. This was the day when Hindi Diwas was celebrated for the first time. The then PM Pandit Nehru has announced to celebrate this day as Hindi Diwas.
