Mumbai: Maharashtra's Uddhav Thackeray government has cut excise duty on imported or imported Scotch whisky by 50 per cent. Due to this, its price in the state will be equal to that of other states. A senior official informed in this regard on Friday, 'Excise duty on Scotch whisky has been reduced from 300 to 150 per cent of the manufacturing cost'.

The official said a notification in this regard has been issued on Thursday. He said the Maharashtra government gets an annual revenue of Rs 100 crore on the sale of imported scotch. The official said the cut is expected to increase the government's revenue to Rs 250 crore, as it will also increase liquor sales from one lakh bottles to 2.5 lakh bottles. The reduction in duty will also curb the smuggling of scotch from other states and the sale of spurious liquor. The reduction in excise duty has reduced the prices of imported whisky in Maharashtra. This will increase the revenue of the state. According to reports, 1 lakh bottles are currently sold in a day, with the fee reduced, the sale of bottles is likely to increase to 2.5 lakh.

Governments across the country, including Maharashtra, get the highest revenue from alcohol. The rate of imported whisky has been cut in Maharashtra. The Maharashtra government has reduced excise duty by 50 per cent. This has significantly reduced the price of whisky. Now the people of Maharashtra will be able to get imported scotch at a lower price.
