ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been implicated in six cases, including the assault on the General Headquarters (GHQ), military installations, and the Metro Station arson incident. This development has significantly advanced the investigation into the violence that occurred on May 9.
According to sources, three of these cases were filed on May 9, and the remaining three were registered on May 10, under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), as reported by The News. Joint investigation teams (JITs) are diligently pursuing the inquiry into all these cases.
The sources further revealed that the cases were registered at various police stations, namely Civil Lines in Faisalabad, Samanabad, RA Bazar, and New Town police stations in Rawalpindi, City Police Station in Mianwali, and Police Station Cantt in Gujranwala, by the respective police officials.
It is noteworthy that the former Prime Minister was not implicated in any of the 28 cases registered earlier in Rawalpindi. However, based on the statements provided by the suspects under investigation and consultation with legal experts, the decision to include his name was made.
The cases related to the GHQ attack and assault on military installations were registered at RA Bazar and New Town police stations. The News reported that on May 9, unruly protesters resorted to unprecedented acts of vandalism by storming the gates of the Pakistan Army's GHQ in Rawalpindi.
Also, PTI supporters launched an attack on and caused damage to Corps Commande's House, originally known as Jinnah House, which previously served as the residence of Muhammad Ali Jinnah. This incident occurred a few hours after the arrest of Imran Khan by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on May 9.
