Chandigarh: The tension between Navjot Singh Sidhu and Captain Amarinder Singh in the Punjab Congress had been going on for a long time. There was a constant war of words between the two. Sidhu had been questioning the functioning of the Amarinder Government for a long time and when he was made the President of the Punjab Congress, questions were raised about Amarinder's functioning. The result was that Amarinder Singh started feeling "humiliated" and resigned on Saturday. After the resignation, Captain Amarinder described Sidhu as a "wrong man". He said that I was taking Punjab to one side and he was taking it to the other side. The captain said he had already told the Congress high command that Sidhu was the wrong man and would ruin the party.

How did this dispute start between Sidhu and Amarinder?

When Imran Khan became the PM of Pakistan, he invited Sidhu to the swearing-in ceremony. At that time Amarinder had said that he should not go to Pakistan, but Sidhu did not accept his suggestion and went to Pakistan. Not only that, Sidhu also hugged Pakistan Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa here. Then, for several days, the controversy went on. Even after resigning on Saturday, the Captain said, "Navjot Singh Sidhu is with Bajwa and Imran Khan. If Sidhu is made the face of the Punjab Chief Minister, he will oppose it, the Captain said. He also described Sidhu as a threat to national security.''

Sidhu's wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu wanted a ticket in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections but was not given a ticket. Thereafter, Navjot Kaur had alleged that she did not get the ticket because of Amarinder. Then, Sidhu also said that his wife would never lie. Talking to media when Captain Amarinder Singh arrived in Patiala to cast his vote in May 2019 due to the Lok Sabha elections, Amarinder had said, "I have no verbal battle with Navjot Singh Sidhu. If they are ambitious, there is nothing wrong with it. I have known him since childhood. He probably wants to be cm and remove me. That is their problem.''

The cabinet change took place in the Amarinder government in June 2019. Sidhu was taken to the local body department and handed over to the power department. This angered Sidhu. Sidhu was so angry that he resigned as cabinet minister of the Punjab government on July 14, 2019. When tensions between Captain Amarinder and Navjot Singh Sidhu escalated, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi had to come for reconciliation. Sidhu was given the command of the Punjab congress in July 2021. Sidhu then continued to question the functioning of Captain Amarinder. Not only that, it was only after Sidhu became the President of the Punjab Congress that 40 MLAs opened a front against Amarinder.

With this, as soon as Sidhu became the president, a front had opened against the captain. It is said that a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party was convened on Saturday in which a decision was being taken against the captain. However, the captain submitted his resignation even before that. The captain resigned with his entire cabinet. After his resignation, the Captain said that he had been feeling "humiliated" for the past few days.
