Islamabad: Imran Khan's party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has suffered a humiliating defeat in local elections. The party has even lost badly in the local elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, considered its stronghold. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) has won the elections for the mayorship of Peshawar (the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa). This was the first election after the merger of tribal districts in khyber pakhtunkhwa state where PTI has suffered.

This information is based on informal and unverified results by the Pakistani newspaper The Express Tribune. PTI has received shocking setbacks in most areas in the first phase of local elections. PTI lost the peshawar mayor 's seat by a huge margin of JUI-F . According to unofficial sources, Zubair Ali has received 62,388 votes for maulana Fazlur Rahman, the party chief of the JUI-F. He has defeated PTI candidate Rizwan Bangash by a margin of nearly 11,500 votes. Rizwan Bangash got 50,669 votes and PPP's Zarak Arbab got 45,000 votes.

Imran Khan has also reacted to the PTI's defeat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He has said that PTI had made a mistake for which we have suffered. In a tweet, Imran wrote, "In the first phase of the local elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, we made a mistake and suffered its shortcomings. Choosing the wrong candidates is the biggest reason for our setback. I will keep an eye on the second phase of elections from now on. Inshallah will register PTI victory.'
