Amsterdam: In a major victory against migrant smuggling, a joint operation conducted by Europol and Interpol has led to the apprehension of 62 individuals suspected of being key players in a large-scale criminal network. The network was involved in smuggling Cuban citizens from their homeland to various destinations within the European Union.

The investigation, which commenced in October 2021, was initiated by Europol's European Migrant Smuggling Centre (EMSC). The authorities discovered that the network employed diverse methods to facilitate their illicit activities, such as employing falsified documentation, arranging fake travel plans, and operating safe houses to conceal the migrants during transit.

The meticulously coordinated operation spanned across five countries, including Spain, Greece, Serbia, North Macedonia, and Finland. In an impressive display of international cooperation, law enforcement agencies from these countries collaborated to orchestrate simultaneous arrests. The arrests were not limited to European soil but extended to apprehending suspects in Cuba and the United States as well.

Interpol Secretary General, Jürgen Stock, echoed this sentiment, praising the international cooperation as a formidable force against crime. Stock emphasized that this operation sent a powerful message to criminals that their illicit activities would be met with swift justice.
