Amsterdam:A passenger train carrying at least 50 people derailed in the Netherlands early on Tuesday after striking construction machinery on the track, according to Dutch emergency services, injuring about 30 people, many of whom were seriously.

The emergency services reported that rescue teams were on the scene of the accident in Voorschoten, a village close to The Hague.

19 people were taken to hospitals, according to a fire department spokesman who spoke to Dutch radio. According to the emergency services, other people were receiving immediate care.

According to the ANP news agency, the front carriage of the night train from Leiden City to The Hague derailed and crashed into a field after the accident. It stated that the second carriage was on its side and that a fire had started in the back carriage but had since been put out.

According to earlier reports, a goods train and a passenger train collided. A goods train was involved in the accident, according to Dutch Railways (NS) spokesman Erik Kroeze, who was unable to provide further information.

He claimed he was unaware of any injuries or fatalities.

Trains between Leiden and certain areas of The Hague were cancelled due to the accident, according to Dutch Railways in a tweet.
