On Saturday, a special court here sentenced a 32-year-old man to life in prison and fined him Rs 25,000 for killing his wife three years ago, according to a senior court official. According to Ahsan Ahmad Khan, Assistant Director Prosecution (ADP), Women Atrocities Court, Koshal Kishore Nagar, a resident of Ayana town here, was convicted of killing Rajkanwar, a government school teacher, in the Itawa town in 2018.

The ADP reported that despite having a son, Nagar and Rajkanwar were not on good terms, according to Ramesh Chand, the deceased's father. As a result of Nagar's frequent thrashing of his wife, Rajkanwar filed a complaint with the Itawa Police Station, and the local Sub Divisional Magistrate issued a restraining order against him, warning him against resorting to violence, Khan said.

On September 17, 2018, Ramesh Chand filed a new complaint with the police after he didn't stop acting out. Rajkanwar was visiting her son's school for some official work on the same day, according to the ADP. Nagar confronted her on her way home from school on a motorbike driven by one of her students, threw red pepper in the student's eyes, and slashed his wife's throat, according to him. Nagar was apprehended shortly after the incident and has been in judicial custody since.
