Hyderabad: Mohammed Sagar (23), a plumber from Banjara Hills, and his friend Praveen (23) were on a journey from Zaheerabad in Sangareddy district along with two other friends from Hyderabad to Srisailam on October 15. After darshan of the Lord at Srisailam, the four men returned to Hyderabad and stayed at the Dindi reservoir in Nalgonda. According to SI Pochaiya, Mohammad Sagar slipped in the water while taking a selfie with his friend Praveen. To save his friend, Praveen also went into the water, who drowned along with his friend. Meanwhile, the rest alerted the fishermen near them, who pulled two people out of the water.

Police have registered a case and started investigation. The bodies were sent for post-mortem. According to a report here, Jalpalli village may turn into another Osman Nagar, the area in which hundreds of houses were submerged during the last two years. Infiltration continues in the Jalpalli area by dumping debris from almost all sides in the Jalpalli lake area, flooding many houses during the rainy season. Most of the watershed area has shrunk due to encroachments, dumping of landfills continues to threaten the existence of the water body.

As per the survey conducted by RV Associates in 2013, the lake is a notified water body spread over 274.75 acres and with a watershed area of 167.480 acres. Notified by HMDA with an ID number 3602, it is mainly located in Jalpalli village under Saroornagar mandal. The huge lake is losing most of its FTL area to encroachers. Although the lake shares borders with Bandlaguda in Chandrayangutta, Mailardevapalli in Rajendranagar and Jalapally village, it largely comes under Maheshwaram constituency which is represented by Education Minister Sabita Indra Reddy.
