New Delhi: The government procurement of wheat across the country has been 337 lakh tonnes in the current season, which is now 20 lakh tonnes lower than the target set by the government at 357 lakh tonnes and the speed is sluggish wherever procurement is still going on. Barring Uttar Pradesh, the rest of the states have come to a standstill as farmers are no longer coming to the government agencies to sell wheat.

The speed of purchase is currently slow

According to information, an official from the Indigenous Apex government agency, FCI said that the wheat procurement in Uttar Pradesh is also progressing at a sluggish pace. Interestingly, government agencies in Punjab and Haryana have not only bought more wheat this season than last year, but have bought more than the target itself. But due to low procurement of wheat in other states, it is finding it difficult to achieve the target set for the whole country.

This time will buy so

At the same time, a senior FCI official said that after looking at the current procurement momentum, the total wheat procurement this year will be around 340 lakh tonnes as the procurement has stopped at most of the places. "Whatever increase in the magnitude of the total wheat procurement will be in Uttar Pradesh itself, but there is also the buying slack going on this year," he said.
