San francisco: On Friday night, nine people were hurt in a shooting spree that police described as "targeted and isolated" in San Francisco's Mission District.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the shooting took place shortly after 9 p.m. at a party held by a clothing store close to the corner of Treat Avenue and 24th Street.

All of the victims were initially listed by the San Francisco Police Department as "expected to survive their injuries." One of the victims, according to a statement from the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, was still in critical condition as of Saturday afternoon.

Four people were in fair condition, one was reportedly in serious condition, three had already been released, and another was. According to the hospital, the victims were eight men and one woman, ranging in age from 20 to 34.

William Scott, the police chief, deemed the violence "unacceptable."

Scott said, "People should feel secure leaving their homes in San Francisco without worrying about becoming victims of gun violence. "Our investigators are diligently working on this case, and moving forward, there will be a noticeable police presence in the neighbourhood where this occurred."

According to a post on the clothing store's Instagram page, Dying Breed, which is close to the intersection where the shooting occurred, was planning a block party to mark its sixth anniversary on Friday night.
At the store, the person who answered the phone declined to comment.

One of San Francisco's oldest districts, the Mission District is named after the Mission Dolores, a 1776-era Spanish mission. The vibrant neighbourhood, which has a long history of being Latino but has been gentrifying more recently, is home to many eateries and stores.

First responders responded quickly to the shooting, according to Mayor London Breed, who also noted that "no lives were lost."

Breed said, "I know there are many queries and worries in the community, and people want answers. We are still trying to figure out exactly what happened and why, and we'll let you know as soon as we know more.
