The Pamir Plateau spread in Central Asian countries known as the roof of the world. Karakul Lake is situated between these mountains, at an altitude of about 4 thousand meters above sea level. It is also higher than the famous Lake Titicaca in South America. This huge lake was formed about 2 and a half million years ago due to the meteorite colliding with the earth. Karakul Lake is spread over 380 square kilometers. In many places, it is as deep as 230 meters. These lakes are very beautiful, surrounded by icy mountains and high desert areas. Anyone can reach the Karakul Lake via the Pamir Highway. This lake was named by the British cartographers after Queen Victoria. Later the Soviet Union named it Karakul i.e. Black Lake. The reality is that this lake changes its color several times a day. Sometimes its water looks blue, sometimes turquoise, sometimes dark green, and dark black in the evening.

People fond of risky travel come to see this lake from far away. The nearest town to Karakul Lake is the Murgab of Tajikistan. The dew of Kyrgyzstan also lies near the lake. Salt has laid siege to this lake. Water does not come out from this lake. The result is that Karakul Lake is the most saline lake in Asia. There is so much salt in its water that no organism is found in it except for a particular type of fish. Only fish named Stone Loch are found in Karakul Lake, which can be inhabited in sandy sedimentary lakes.

Even though creatures are not found in Karakul, however, there are birds from far and wide on the islands and nearby marshy edges. These include the hawk and the Tibetan pheasant living on the Himalayas. Karakul Lake is so brackish that it is impossible to sail in it. If you still try to row the boat in it, then there is every possibility of its reversal. Just like the Dead Sea in the Middle East, Karakul Lake is similar to this. There is so much salt in the Dead Sea water that no creature can grow there. The same situation is with Karakul as well. Still, people come from far to see it. People from around here gather in summer. A one-time journey to reach here is a memorable experience for years.
