Lucknow: The trends for assembly elections in 5 states, including Uttar Pradesh, have started coming. As per the latest trends, BJP is leading in 100 seats and Samajwadi Party (SP) in 55 seats. Who will form the government with how many seats in the 18th Assembly will be clear by this evening, but if you look at the history of UP, the parties that form the majority government here have crossed the 300 mark four times. It started with an election in 1951. So far, BJP, congress, Janata party have a record of winning more than 300 seats.
In 2017, the BJP came to power by winning 312 seats. Earlier, the BJP had won the highest number of 221 seats in Ramlahar in 1991, but in the first assembly elections held in 1951, Congress had formed the government by securing 388 of the 413 seats. However, the record has not yet been broken. In the election held after the Emergency, in 1977, the Janata Party won 352 seats and came to power and the Congress was reduced to 47. After this, the Congress stood up again and in 1980 also, the Congress had won 309 seats and then the BJP had only 11 seats.
If we talk about winning between 250 and 300 seats, then the name of Congress comes in it also. In 1957, Congress had won 286 seats and then 269 in 1985, at that time the BJP could win only 16 seats. From 200 seats, 250 seats have been won several times by many parties. Congress won 249 seats in 1962, Congress 211 in 1969, Congress 215 in 1974, Janata Dal 205 in 1969, BJP 221 in 1991, BSP 206 in 2007 and SP 224 in 2012.
