Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee died on Thursday. At 5.05 pm on Thursday evening, he closed his eyes at the AIIMS hospital in Delhi. It would never be enough, no matter how hard we try to appreciate the works accomplished by Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

It is said that more than 25 lakh people travel daily by the Delhi Metro but they may not know that this railway network was started from the 8.2 km stretch of the Red Line and at that time it was inaugurated by then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Vajpayee inaugurated the first corridor of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on December 24, 2002, with a big dream of development of Delhi.

On the inauguration event, Delhi's then Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani, Union Urban Development Minister Ananth Kumar, DMRC chief E. Sreedharan and Metro Chairman Madan Lal Khurana were also present.

Vajpayee Ji was the first citizen to buy the ticket of the Delhi Metro on the Kashmiri Gate metro station and paid for it on his own.

Consider it his greatness that in spite of being the chief guest of the event and the prime minister of the country, Atal Bihari Vajpayee himself bought the first card of the Metro and that too by getting into a queue.
