Lucknow: The income tax inquiry at samajwadi party (SP) national secretary Rajiv Rai's residence in Mau ended on Sunday morning. According to officials of the department, the investigation has found evidence of tax evasion worth crores of rupees. More than two dozen lockers have been seized in 14 private and public banks. Preliminary investigations have found evidence of crores of frauds through donations in Rajiv Rai's bengaluru-run schools and colleges. This money has been invested in real estate in many cities.
Documents of properties worth crores of rupees have also been recovered in Lucknow along with the cities of Purvanchal. They are in the name of women and family members of the family. In the interrogation of the officials, Rajiv Rai said that he has funded crores of rupees in several companies but his name is not in the documents. While they have fixed up to 50 per cent of the profit of that company. The probe involved Deputy Director M Jain from Bengaluru as well as JP Choubey, Rakesh Kumar Srivastava, Gopinath Choubey from Banaras.
The income tax department raid at the camp office of SP National Secretary and spokesperson Rajiv Rai, which started at 7 am on Saturday, continued till 12.45 pm. A large number of SP workers rushed to the spot as soon as the raid was reported in the morning. Meanwhile, the activists also checked the laptops of the officials accusing them of implicating them.
