NEW DELHI: In the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2019 list, India has jumped five places to 52nd position, improving its ranking to 57th position. According to a report released on Wednesday, India retains its status as the top exporter of IT services. According to the Global Innovation Index (GII), 2019, three cities in the country, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi are among the top 100 science and technology hubs in the world. The GII has ranked 129 economies based on 80 indicators in its 12th edition.
These indicators range from the rate of submission of applications for intellectual property to the creation of mobile apps, expenditure on education and scientific and technical publications. Switzerland is ranked first in this index. The top ten countries included in the index..... Sweden, USA, Netherlands, UK, Finland, Denmark, Singapore, Germany and Israel.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal released the global innovation index (GII) ranking here on Wednesday. Goyal said the government is committed to further improving the ranking as innovation is crucial for the country's economic growth. "I assure you that we will not sit comfortably until we achieve the top 25 and then the top 10 rankings. ''
India has improved its position on most fronts, such as labor productivity growth, knowledge, and technology, intellectual property rights. Besides, India's position in terms of institutions, human capital and research and market expertise has also improved. India continues to be at the top of the center in the Central and South Asian region.
