New Zealand beat India in the semi-finals of the ICC World Cup 2019 and won the match by 18 runs, ending India's World Cup journey. More importantly, India entered the semi-finals with the highest number of points in the league round of this World Cup. However, it could not retain her reign in the semi-finals. India has lost in the semi-finals of the second consecutive World Cup. It lost to Australia in the semi-final match in 2015.

New Zealand scored 239 for 8 in the first semi-final of the World Cup. India's top order batsmen surrendered fully in response to the score. India's first three batsmen Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli scored just one each. Dinesh Karthik could score only six runs. Later Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya tried for the victory of India but ultimately the defeat was the only fate for the team. India were all out for 221 in reply to India's 240. Ross Taylor contributed the highest 74 and captain Kane Williamson contributed 67 runs.

Chasing a target of just 240 runs, India lost six wickets for 92 runs. In the critical condition,  Ravindra (77 runs, 59 balls) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (50 runs, 72 balls) played crucial inning and took the team to 208. But with both of them falling one wicket after another, the team got into trouble and everything was over.
