New Delhi: Team India were 258 for four on the opening day of the first match of the Test series between India and New Zealand. Shreyas Iyer, playing his first Test match, has scored an unbeaten 75 in the match, while Ravindra Jadeja also supported him with a brilliant 50. Due to poor light, only 84 overs could be played on the first day.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has completed his fifty off 99 balls with the help of six fours. This is the sixth fifty of Jadeja's Test career. Iyer has hit 7 fours and 2 excellent sixes in his unbeaten innings of 75 runs. Earlier, the first session of the day was held by India. However, Team India lost their first wicket as Mayank Agarwal for a total of 21 runs. Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara then took the innings forward and did not lose a wicket till the lunch break. Gill, meanwhile, completed his fourth Test fifty. Gill and Pujara shared a 61-run partnership at the lunch break. However, the dice overturned in the second season and the Kiwi team dominated.

New Zealand took three big wickets for India in the second session. Gill returned to the pavilion early in the second season after completing his fifty. Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane then failed to convert a good start into a big innings. But Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja, who came in to bat after that, added 113 runs for the team without losing a wicket. For the Kiwis, Team Saudi took 1 wicket and Kylie Jasmine took 3 wickets.
