New Delhi: The festival of freedom is being celebrated in Kashmir with great fanfare. To avoid any untoward incident, the police force is deployed on the platforms. Security arrangements have been made in Jammu and Kashmir. What's more, this is the first independence day, since  Article 370 was scrapped.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, a Lieutenant Colonel (Honorary) and former captain of the Indian cricket team in the Territorial Army of the Indian Army, is taking up the trainees in Jammu and Kashmir these days. Dhoni will stay in Ladakh on the special occasion of Independence Day and will celebrate Independence there. Dhoni had reached Ladakh on the evening of August 14 and met the local jawans during the visit.

Governor to unfurl tricolor in Srinagar

The flag will be hoisted by Governor Satyapal Malik at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar on the occasion of Independence Day. Today, the valley will celebrate at the district, tehsil and panchayat level. All preparations have also been completed. On Wednesday, the J&K Police officer and the principal secretary held a press conference to apprise them of all the preparations. In the Valley, even though Section 144 is still in force, these restrictions have been removed from Jammu. Schools and colleges are open in Jammu and markets have also been opened.
