STOCKHOLM: India and Canada have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their environmental and climatic action.

Bhupender Yadav, India's Minister of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, and Steven Guilbeault, Canada's Minister of Environment and Climate Change, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Thursday to expand bilateral collaboration on climate change, environmental protection, and conservation.

The signing took place on the sidelines of Stockholm+50, and it was made possible by a previous meeting between the two ministers at COP26 last year.

Under the terms of the MoU, both countries have agreed to work together, share information and expertise, and support each other's goals in a variety of areas, including increasing renewable energy capacity, decarbonizing heavy industries, reducing plastic pollution, promoting chemical safety, and ensuring sustainable consumption.

Both countries are committed to assisting each other in achieving their climate and environmental goals by developing long-term solutions that also give opportunities for economic growth and employment creation.

Water and waste management systems, clean hydrogen, smart grids, and energy storage are just a few of Canada's proven sustainable technologies that could be of interest to India.
