Before the series began, England needed a 4–0, 3–0, or 3–1 win to reach the finals, but now all three options are over.

At the same time, Team India needed to win 2–1 to reach the final of WTC. If India wins the next match, then they will reach the final with an even better position. For the first time, the ICC is holding the World Test Championship. The final is to be played at Lord's Cricket Ground from 18 June.
