Ranchi: Following their participation in the INDIA bloc meeting, Kalpana Soren, wife of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, encouraged everyone to await clarity until June 4. "When you have waited so long, wait for 4th June. You will get to know everything on the 4th of June," Kalpana remarked.
The INDIA bloc convened on June 2 to strategize for the impending counting day on June 4. Meanwhile, the Congress party held separate meetings, first with their Lok Sabha candidates and then with Pradesh Congress Committee Presidents from various states to assess the ground situation post the exit polls predicting a BJP-led NDA victory with a clear majority.
A delegation representing the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) met with the Election Commission of India to address concerns regarding the counting process. They advocated for clear, comprehensive guidelines, including prioritizing the counting of postal ballots as per Conduct of Election Rules 1961, ensuring CCTV-monitored safe movement of Control Units, and verifying date/time on Control Units for accuracy.
Other demands highlighted by the INDIA bloc included specifying procedures for counting agents, displaying essential poll information before announcing candidate-wise results, and enhancing transparency to bolster trust in the electoral process.
Meanwhile, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation led by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met with the Election Commission of India to express concerns about attempts to undermine the integrity of India's electoral process by certain factions. They urged the ECI to take necessary steps to safeguard the electoral process and familiarize themselves with all aspects of the prescribed procedures. The Lok Sabha elections, conducted in seven phases for 543 parliamentary seats, culminated in the counting scheduled for June 4.
