India's preparations against China continue, new road being built between Ladakh and Darcha

Leh: India is rapidly working on a strategic road connecting Darcha in Himachal Pradesh to Ladakh amid the deadlock over the borderline with China. According to media reports, the preparation of this road will allow easy crossing of several high altitudes passes.

It is being told that about 290 km long road will be important for the movement of troops and will provide an important link to the Kargil area, armed with heavy weapons in the border areas of the Ladakh region. It will be the third road link to Ladakh after the other two roads: Manali-Leh road and Srinagar-Leh highway. Work has been expedited on the reopening of an alternative road from Himachal Pradesh to Ladakh, as it is a strategically important road. An official on condition of anonymity said that the project is likely to be completed by the end of 2022.

Sources said that along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, Daulat Beg Oldi as well as various road projects are being expedited for movement of troops in various main areas like Depsang. The Border Roads Organization is also working on another important road connecting Ladakh with the Depsang plains. This road will provide easy access to Sub-Sector North (SSN) in Ladakh.
