Due to increasing cases of corona virus, India's women's 4x100m and men's 4x400m relay teams were not going to participate in next month's Olympic qualifying World Athletics Relays in Poland. Let us share that after the suspension of a connecting flight to Amsterdam owing to a steep rise in Covid-19 cases in India. The athletics teams included star sprinters Hima Das and Dutee Chand.

For your information let us share here that The teams were scheduled to board a KLM flight to Amsterdam on Thursday but the Dutch government suspended flights from India effective from Monday evening. The World Relays would have been the first major international event for Indian sprinters since the Asian Athletics Championships in Doha in April 2019.

In this regard the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) tried to book an alternate flight available to any European city en route to Silesia in Poland where the event will be held on May 1 and 2 as there is no direct flight to Poland from India. However, to be noted that AFI president Adille J Sumariwalla expressed his disappointment saying that despite their best efforts, the teams could not be rerouted.
