New Delhi: The Indian government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially labeled Mohammad Qasim Gujjar, an operative of the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), as a designated terrorist. Gujjar, known for orchestrating multiple terrorist attacks, has been singled out for his role in spreading violence and instigating unrest.

Home Minister Amit Shah, in a statement, emphasized the government's firm stance against individuals posing threats to national security. "Those who undermine the unity and integrity of our nation will face severe consequences," Shah reiterated.

Gujjar, who also goes by aliases such as Salman and Suleman, has been implicated in a range of terror-related activities. These include coordinating attacks, facilitating the transportation of weapons and explosives via drones, and managing cross-border smuggling operations. His involvement in recruiting and radicalizing new members through social media and encrypted communication platforms has also been noted.

According to official sources, Gujjar, aged 32 and originally from Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir, is currently based in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The government asserts that he is affiliated with LeT, a proscribed terrorist organization. Gujjar's actions have resulted in numerous casualties and injuries, prompting the government to take decisive action against him.

The designation of Gujjar as a terrorist comes under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, aimed at combating terrorism and unlawful activities. This move underscores the government's commitment to thwarting terrorism and maintaining national security.

Gujjar's designation marks the 57th individual to be classified as a terrorist under the UA(P)A, signaling a continued effort to combat terror threats effectively.
