Under the leadership of Kidambi Srikanth, India has raised hopes of reaching the quarterfinals by defeating Kazakhstan 4–1 in the first group match of the Asia Team Badminton Championship. Apart from former world number one Srikanth, Lakshya Sen and Shubhankar Dey have easily won in their singles matches. Srikanth defeated Dimitri Panarin 21-10 21-7 in 23 minutes. Sen defeated Arthur Niyazov 21-13, 21-8 in 21 minutes. Dey defeated Khaitmurat Kulmatov 21–11, 21–5. World Championship bronze medalists B Sai Praneeth and Chirag Shetty lost 21-18, 16-21, 19-21 to Kazakhstan's Niyazov and Panarin in the doubles category.

However, MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila defeated Kulmatov and Nikita Brazin of Kazakhstan 21-14 21-8. The Indian team, which won the bronze medal four years ago, was placed in Group A along with Indonesia and hosts Philippine but the draw was withdrawn after China and Hong Kong did not play.
