Guwahati: Tremors were felt in Sonitpur city of Assam at 4.17 pm on Thursday. According to the National Centre for Sysmology, the magnitude of the earthquake on the Richter scale is 3.3 has been measured. The tremors are said to have been felt in Sonitpur as well as Guwahati.

Similarly, tremors have been felt at different places in Assam this week. Earlier, tremors were felt in Sonitpur at around 7.51 am on Wednesday, April 28. According to the National Centre for Sysmology, the magnitude of the earthquake on the Richter scale was 6.4. Thereafter, two more tremors were felt at 7.58 p.m. and 8.00 p.m. These tremors were recorded at a magnitude of 4.3 and 4.4 respectively.

At the same time, cracks broke out in several buildings at Tezpur, Guwahati and many other places, the district headquarters of Sonitpur, and people came out of their homes and other places in panic. Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi spoke to Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday and inspected the loss of life and property caused by the earthquake. He also assured all possible central assistance to this north-eastern region.
