The team won the previous medal as a bronze medal in the 2016 stage in Hyderabad. Jahan Praneeth lost to Kantaphone Wangcharoen 14-21, 21-14,12-21 and Srikanth 20-22,14-21 to Kunlavut Vitidasarn.
