New Delhi: In a resolute diplomatic move, India has voiced a forceful protest against China's recently unveiled 2023 official map, which lays claim to regions within India's territorial boundaries. The protest was lodged through diplomatic channels on Tuesday, underscoring India's firm stance on the matter.

Responding to queries from the media, Arindam Bagchi, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, unequivocally stated that India completely rejects the unfounded claims being made by China. He emphasized that these claims lack any valid basis and that such actions taken by the Chinese authorities only serve to complicate the already intricate boundary issue between the two nations. Bagchi reiterated the Indian government's commitment to finding a peaceful resolution to the longstanding border dispute.

China's move to release the 2023 edition of its "standard map" has raised significant concerns. The map incorporates territories that are internationally recognized as part of India, including Arunachal Pradesh and the Aksai Chin region, alongside contentious areas such as Taiwan and the disputed South China Sea, all of which are now depicted within China's claimed territory.

This development follows closely after a recent interaction between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The leaders had convened during the 15th BRICS Summit held in South Africa, where they underscored the need for a "resolution" to the persisting border matters that have strained relations between their two nations. Their discussions also highlighted a mutual commitment to intensifying efforts aimed at swift "disengagement and de-escalation." This concerted endeavor seeks to restore a sense of normalcy and cooperation in the bilateral relationship.

As the situation unfolds, India remains steadfast in asserting its territorial integrity and sovereignty. The diplomatic protest serves as a testament to India's dedication to pursuing a peaceful and diplomatic resolution to the complex border issues, even in the face of provocative actions.
