WASHINGTON: The recent dispute between India and the US over Russian weapons has begun, but a big news has emerged. Two US Senate senators have tabled a resolution in the House calling for India to become a NATO member to easily sell Us weapons to India. If India is not made a NATO member, it should be given the same status.

If the resolution is passed in the US House, it will be easier for India to get modern weapons from the US. The special thing is that the two MPs who have brought these proposals belong to a separate party. Mark Warner is a close ally of the Democratic Party, while John Cornyn is a Republican party, both of which have already sought to declare India an important defence ally of the US. The demand for MPs comes at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump are scheduled to meet next week.

While the two leaders will meet at the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will visit India soon. The COMCASA Treaty between India and the United States is currently signed, which includes security as well as technical transactions between the two countries. At the same time, the two countries are in talks on the BECA basic exchange corporation agreement.
